What is text weight?
Text weight papers are light weight papers used for writing, printing, or copy machine weight papers. Common weights for a text weight paper is 20#. A ream of text weight paper is 500 sheets.

What is cover weight paper versus cardstock?
The terms cover weight and cardstock are generally considered to mean the same thing. Cover weight paper, or cardstock, is a heavy weight paper, usually 65# and higher. A ream of cover weight paper is 250 sheets.

How is the weight determined?
Text weight and cover weight papers are determined by weighing 500 parent sheets (typically 26" x 40"), so the heavier the weight, the higher the pound designation (20# versus 100#, for example).

What does the weight number mean?
The higher the pound of the cardstock, the heavier the cardstock is.

Are all the papers listed on your site in cover weight?
No, both the Mulberries and the Vellums are text weight.

Are your cardstocks and specialty papers printable?
All cardstocks, metallics, and vellums are printable by most printers. We do not recommend printing on Mulberry because it is a text weight and very light weight. We do not recommend printing on the Pearl, Wave, Reptile, Embossed, Polish, or Pinstripe cardstocks unless you are bringing them to a professional offset printer due to their finishes. We also recommend that you order a sample and try it with your printer if you are not sure if the paper you are interested in will work with your printer. DiscountCardstock.com does not guarantee that any of our paper will work with any particular printer.

Can I print on the Mulberry Paper?
Mulberrys are a 13# text weight. You can mount the mulberry to cardstock to give it the thickness needed to go through your printer. I recommend Super 77 Multipurpose Spray Adhesive by 3M.

Are your cardstocks the same color on both sides and when torn?
Yes, our true cardstocks, mulberries and vellums are the same color throughout. This is not true of our metallic papers (which are the same color throughout, but do not have the metallic specs in the core of the paper) or the Pearl, Wave, Reptile, Embossed, Polish, Mirri and Pinstripe cardstocks, which have a shiny finish on one side and a matte white on the other.

Cardstock that is white on the back side or has a white edge when torn is not true cardstock but is usually either white cardstock that has had ink applied to the color side or, in some cases, it may be that two different colors of cardstock have been affixed to each other. When cardstock or papers are ‘affixed’ to each other, it is not discernable to the naked eye and it looks like one sheet of paper with two different colored sides. This is similar to our Pearl, Wave, Reptile, Embossed, Polish, Mirri and Pinstripe cardstocks.

How can I tell the actual color of a cardstock/paper?
All computer monitors are calibrated differently which determines how the color is viewed. We recommend purchasing the Swatch Book or ordering a sample for accurate determination of colors, textures, thickness, etc.

Do you send samples?
Yes, you may order 8.5 x 11 sample sheets for $1.00 each. Samples are not available for special order items, custom cut items, clearance items, discontinued items, swatch books or Museo Products.
